El Partido de la Izquierda Europea (PIE) denuncia la persecución política que vive el Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) y sus militantes
Tanto el PIE, como otros muchos organismos internacionales, venimos denunciando la política autoritaria del actual Presidente Nayib Bukele.
Desde su elección como presidente, Bukele ha intensificado sus ataques contra el FMLN y ha acumulado cada vez más poder, entre otras cosas asegurándose el control del Sistema judicial y anunciando duplicar la cantidad de militares. Ahora se ha decidido a lanzar un ataque frontal contra el FMLN con la detención de varios ex-funcionarios del Gobierno pasado, como Violeta Menjívar, Erlinda Handal, Calixto Mejía, Hugo Flores, y Carlos Caceres.
Al mismo tiempo, se ha emitido la orden de detención contra el ex-Presidente Salvador Sánchez Cerén y Gerson Martínez.
Todas estas maniobras, además de ser cortina de humo para desviar la atención de la corrupción actual que ejerce el gobierno de Bukele, constituyen una nueva etapa en su voluntad de acabar con todas las expresiones de oposición en el país, en abierta violación del Estado de derecho.
Es urgente restablecer las libertades democráticas y constitucionales.
El PIE expresa su solidaridad con el FMLN y sus militantes detenidos o en la lista de perseguidos por parte de este Gobierno cada vez más autoritario.
El PIE solicita la liberación de todos/as los/as detenidos/as y poner fin a esta persecución política contra los adversarios del gobierno actual.

The Party of the European Left (PIE) condemns the political persecution of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) and its militants
The EL as well as many other international organizations have been denouncing the authoritarian policies of President Nayib Bukele.
Since his election as president, Bukele has intensified his attacks against the FMLN and has accumulated more and more power, including securing control of the judicial system and announcing the doubling of the military. He has now decided to launch a frontal attack against the FMLN with the arrest of several former government officials, such as Violeta Menjívar, Erlinda Handal, Calixto Mejía, Hugo Flores, and Carlos Caceres.
At the same time, an arrest warrant has been issued against former President Salvador Sánchez Cerén and Gerson Martínez.
All these manoeuvres, besides being a smokescreen to divert attention from the current corruption exercised by Bukele’s government, constitute a new stage in its will to put an end to all expressions of opposition in the country, in open violation of the rule of law.
It is urgent to reestablish democratic and constitutional liberties.
The EL expresses its solidarity with the FMLN and its militants detained or included in the list of those persecuted by this increasingly authoritarian government.
The EL calls for the release of all those detained and an end to this political persecution against opponents of the current government.
